Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce believes being yelled at by a coach isn’t always a bad thing. It is a sign that they see potential in you and want you to improve and succeed. In the Aug. 2025 New Heights podcast, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid recalled yelling at Kelce for the first five years in Kansas City because he knew he had exceptional talent.Kelce did not feel one bit discouraged. He embraced the yelling, thinking Reid believed in his talent. “That’s how I knew that you saw something in me,” Kelce said. “I never reacted in a bad way, did I?” Most of us assume the worst when someone yells at us.Kelce went on to encourage young people watching the podcast, explaining that constructive criticism is valuable for growth and success and is not a sign of failure or discouragement. “All you young guys out there, don’t be afraid to get yelled at,” he said.

Travis Kelce’s winning mindset includes maintaining success and playing for passion

One of the most recent setbacks for Travis Kelce was not making a playoff appearance in the 2025 NFL season after 10 years. He was so disheartened by the Week 15 loss to the Houston Texans that he did not even have anything to say to the reporters at the postgame press conference. The Chiefs ended the season with a 6-11 record and missed the postseason for the first time since 2014. Kelce joined Kansas City in 2013 but spent the majority of his rookie season on injured reserve due to a knee injury.ESPN’s Adam Teicher reported in Feb. 2014 that during the 2013 offseason and training camp, Kelce looked more like a wide receiver than a tight end.Head coach Andy Reid’s offense utilized Kelce’s dynamic, wide receiver-like pass-catching abilities in his role as a drafted tight end.Every year after the injury-marred rookie season of his NFL career, Kelce had seen success after success in the postseason.Three Super Bowl wins later, he could not believe he had not even made it to the postseason in 2025.Kelce once said, “Once you have success, you have to maintain it.” He reportedly failed to do so in 2025.But he knows he will be back with a bang for the 2026 season. He knows this game inside and out. He has been playing it since he was a kid. He has the passion for it. And that’s all that matters to him.During his April 2020 interview on ESPN’s First Take, Travis Kelce explained that he has more passion for the game of football than emotion. He said that emotions rise and fall, but passion stays constant and comes from within.Kelce said that he enjoyed playing the game long before the stadium crowds and NFL fame.Whether he was practicing without fans, playing catch, or getting the guys together for a sandlot game, his passion for football remained unchanged. And it has been one of the driving forces behind his successful NFL career. The others are fierce competitiveness, dynamic duo synergy with Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, older brother and former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce’s influence, and maintaining his body over the years by employing a dedicated support system of therapists, trainers, and nutritionists.

Travis Kelce’s success advice is making steady progress every single day

There will be setbacks to hold one back. There will be days when one doesn’t feel like doing anything in life. But staying consistent on those days is key.Travis Kelce said on The Pivot Podcast a few years back that achieving success is not about obsessing over big dreams. It is about how you live your life every single day.Consistent efforts, disciplined routines, and a razor-sharp focus on small daily actions help achieve long-term success.According to the 36-year-old tight end, everyone has big goals, but those who make steady progress every single day through intentional daily habits truly achieve their goals.Today, Kelce is going into his 14th NFL season with three Super Bowl wins, 11 Pro Bowl selections, four First-Team All-Pro selections, and 10 NFL records. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end is not defined by his massive NFL success; he is defined by his consistent daily efforts, not being afraid of getting yelled at, and passion for football.
