Don’t let the size fool you, Bernese mountain dogs. Dogs are gentle giants that are far more likely to lean affectionately against you than bark at you. Bred originally for farm work in the Swiss Alps, they’re calm, loving, and considered excellent, patient companions for younger children specifically. One practical note worth keeping in mind, particularly for Indian households: their dense, heavy double coat was built for cold Alpine winters, which means they need genuinely careful management, shade, cooling, and reduced exercise during peak heat in a hot Indian climate.
