India’s National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi on Tuesday held the 25th round of special representatives’ talks on the India China boundary question in Beijing, with the discussions focused on maintaining peace and tranquillity along the border and advancing bilateral ties.Earlier in the day, Doval met Chinese vice president Han Zheng ahead of the boundary talks. According to the Indian Embassy in China, the two discussed ways to strengthen peace and tranquillity in the border areas and further improve India China relations across economic, political and multilateral forums, in line with the consensus reached by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping.Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong said Han highlighted the momentum in bilateral ties, noting that Modi and Xi had met twice over the past two years in Kazan and Tianjin and reached a series of important understandings. According to Xu, Han said these understandings had helped bring bilateral relations back towards recovery and improvement.Han also called for India and China to manage their relationship from a strategic and long term perspective, strengthen mutual trust, expand cooperation, improve multilateral coordination and properly manage differences. He stressed the need for sustained and stable development of bilateral relations.Doval arrived in Beijing on Monday for a two day visit at the invitation of Wang Yi. His visit comes amid a gradual thaw in India China relations following a series of high level engagements between Modi and Xi.The two leaders had met on the sidelines of key international summits, including the SCO Summit in Tianjin, following their October 2024 meeting in Kazan. They had stressed that India and China are development partners rather than rivals and that differences between the two countries should not be allowed to become disputes.

The ministry of external affairs had earlier said that stable India China relations based on mutual respect, mutual interest and mutual sensitivity were important for the development of both countries as well as for a multipolar world and Asia.
