A 19-year-old US Santa Cruz student, Alli Renee Singh, was killed when a car that she was not driving plunged off Santa Cruz’s iconic West Cliff Drive on August 13. The fatal crash took place near Streamer Lane, which is a world-famous surf break where massive waves touch the cliffs.The Santa Cruz Fire Department sent five of its units to the rescu operation along with three units from Central Fire District, a battalion chief from Scotts Valley Fire and Santa Cruz police.A New York Post report said that rescue swimmers tried to save Singh who was trapped in the submerged car while the male driver escaped the vehicle and suffered only minor injuries,The fire department said the tragedy took place around 12.50 am.UC Santa Cruz police also were notified of the tragedy and went to the scene because the victim was a student, university spokesman Scott Hernandez-Jason told The Pajaronian. “We were heartbroken to learn that the victim was a UC Santa Cruz student,” the rep said. “Our deepest condolences go out to the student’s family and friends during this difficult time. We are providing support resources to those affected by this tragedy.”“It is with a very sad and heavy heart that I deliver this news to you. My niece, Alli Renee Singh, daughter of Ravneet Mahal and Gian Singh, has been taken to our Lord on the morning of August 13th in a tragic auto accident. Alli was a thriving 19-year-old in the midst of starting her 3rd year at UC Santa Cruz. She was a very smart, beautiful and loving young lady and will be missed by all who crossed her path.
